Torlon Polymer Fasteners for High Temperatures Above 500°F

Q: I have an application where I need a non-metal fastener because of insulation and magnetic issues. The problem is that it also needs to be able to retain strength at about 520°F. Should I use a ceramic?

A: Ceramic fasteners are definitely not necessary at these temperatures, although they would work from a temperature point of view. Usually ceramics are for extreme temperatures over 1500°F. For your situation, I would suggest Torlon polymer fasteners. They offer 22,000psi of tensile strength which is almost that of glass fiber reinforced PEEK, and they retain there strength to about 525°F. In addition, because they are a polymer, not metal, they have good insulating properties and are non-magnetic.
