The difference between CL1 and CL2 in 316 B8M material.

Q: I have a customer who needs 316 Stainless Steel B8M bolts. Would Class 1 or Class 2 have a higher strength?
A: If a higher strength is needed you would want to use Class 2. B8M Class 2 is carbide solution treated and strain hardened whereas Class 1 is carbide solution treated only. The strain hardening increases the strength and can also reduce the chances of galling. Class 1 Min Tensile Strength = 75 KSI. Class 2 Min Tensile strength is slightly different because it is broken up by sizes. 3/4″ and below Min Tensile = 110ksi, Over 3/4″-1″ Min Tensile = 100ksi, Over 1″-1.25″ Min Tensile = 95ksim and over 1.25″-1.5″ Min Tensile = 90ksi.
