Q: I’m using Duplex 2205 for a saltwater application but am starting to have some corrosion due to some sulfuric acid contamination. Can you suggest anything that might help improve the corrosion resistance?
A: If you’re on the borderline with Duplex 2205 you might want to consider a Super Duplex alloy called Zeron 100. Zeron 100 fasteners provide the same level of chloride/saltwater resistance but can handle moderate levels of sulfuric acid as well. If your issue is more severe, then you may consider Alloy 20 or Hastelloy C276 bolts, which can handle the saltwater as well as acids at stronger concentrations and higher temperature.
